I took Matthew for his haircut yesterday, and this time the hairdresser tried him with the clippers for the first time. I've not asked before as he's always been very good having his hair cut and I haven't wanted to put him off by having a bad experience, as I've heard his friend Steffan hates having his hair cut and tries to get away! Anyway, I had my hair cut first with the clippers and then asked Matthew if he wanted to try them. He was happy to, and thought it was "ticklish". He was very good and let the hairdresser cut all the way around with the clippers, and even kept his cape on most of the time so the hair didn't cover his clothes (but he did take it off towards the end). As usual, he was running around the hairdresser trying to spray people with the water gun before having his hair cut, which isn't my fault as the hairdresser gave him the water spray to play with. I think the staff in there enjoy it!
This morning, we took Matthew swimming again and I tried to encourage him to let go of me in the pool. He didn't like it much, but discovered that when I let go for just a few seconds and then grabbed him again, he enjoyed it and thought it was a game, so maybe this is a good way to teach him. He's happy to 'swim' round with me holding his waist up, but he's not kicking his legs or moving his arms much at the moment.
