G&T

Matthew has learned two more letters of the alphabet - G and T.  Louise had taught him that G was for Gordon (in Thomas the Tank), and yesterday he learned the letter T for Thomas.  He correctly pointed out the letter T on a van this morning without being prompted while I was driving him to my mum's house.

He also recognises the letter A, and now regularly points out O and W.  He often still gets M confused with W, but at least he now seems to recognise letters as being distinct from numbers and hasn't confused Z or S with 2 for a while.

At the moment he only recognises capital letters - the idea of two cases is a little too difficult for him to grasp yet, though we are also showing him words on phonetic flashcards which are in lower case.  Last week I brought home an alphabet jigsaw from work for him, which was being taken out of stock, and have been trying to use it to teach him some more letters.  He wants to know what they are "for" (like T is for Thomas etc.), but kept asking about U and X which I found a bit difficult!

I've also downloaded an app on my phone which features a game for toddlers where you drag random letters into the correct order to make a word.  Matthew really enjoys this, though it is a shame it only features a few words.
