Swimming unaided

We took Matthew swimming again this morning, with just myself and Matthew going in the pool.  We've not been for three weeks, and at first I thought we might take a step backwards with Matthew very reluctant to step further into the pool once the water had gone above his waist.  Eventually we got in the pool, and it took a while to get him comfortable with the pool again, but after we had been in for about twenty minutes he suddenly had the confidence to let go of me and began to bounce across the pool on his own.  After this he also let go of his float as well, though he still had arm bands on, and bounced away from me so he obviously felt comfortable enough in the water.  Louise says that he let go in the pool before, but this is the first time I've seen him let go and move away from me for longer than a few seconds.

He still doesn't kick his legs much unless we ask him to, so learning to swim is still a long way off - but we're making progress!
