Matthew is 3

Matthew's new scooter
We gave Matthew a birthday surprise this morning, having left his main birthday present until today.  After he had gone to bed, Louise wheeled Matthew's new Lightning McQueen scooter into the lounge along with matching helmet and knee pads, and when he came downstairs this morning I filmed him when he walked in and discovered it.  He'd seen it advertised on the telly and asked for it a few months ago, and he seemed delighted with it.  He's been wheeling it round the house this evening as it has been raining outside so he hasn't had a chance to play with it in the garden yet.

Matthew had another surprise this morning, and perhaps not such a welcome one!  It was his first visit to his meithrin, and a chance to see the place with Louise before he goes for his first morning on Wednesday.  Apparently he was very cautious, and was reluctant to let go of Louise's legs!  Anyway, he did start to play with another boy towards the end which is promising, but I don't know how he will react when Louise leaves him there on Wednesday as it will be the first change to his weekly routine for a long time.  There was another boy there for the first time too, and he was so confident that, thinking Louise was a member of staff, he said to her "Excuse me!  What does this do? (pointing at a toy)".  Apparently a lot of children are like Matthew though, and cautious on their first few visits.

After this, Matthew went to his nursery as usual.  We took a Thomas birthday cake along for him, and they all sang happy birthday.  Instead of three candles we bought one candle in the shape of the number 3 and, after blowing this out, Matthew apparently asked where the other two candles were!
