On the hottest October day ever recorded (in England at least), I decided to make the most of the exceptional heatwave and take Matthew to the beach, as we've not had a chance to go this year with the last couple of months being pretty wet. When we arrived just after 10am, the car thermometer read 20C, and the beach was fairly empty considering, though a lot more people had arrived by the time we left.
As the estuary at the beach we visited can be dangerous, we didn't go in the water (though Matthew wanted to), so spent our time building sandcastles, playing ball and climbing on the rocks. Matthew also played on the slide, see-saw and a toy boat in the children's play area.

Matthew's role play has developed over the last few months. He now enjoys reenacting scenes from his DVDs, particularly a scene from a Thomas episode where Thomas gets hit by a giant snowball. I have to pretend to run away as Matthew pelts me with cushions (the giant snowball) and then get 'rescued' by Rocky, a repair crane. He asked Louise earlier this evening to "pretend" to be Ben 10, and I had to "pretend to be a statue" and stand still while being poked!
