After a phase when Matthew didn't even want to pick up a pen, he has now started to spend a lot of time drawing. This might be because he used to find it difficult to draw anything recognisable, and so got frustrated, while now he can draw a person, and simple shapes. He also enjoys trying to write his name, and can write "Matt" and "w" but struggles with the "he"; strangely enough he doesn't always write the letters in the right place, so although he writes them in the correct order he will often draw the "a" to the left of the "M". It just makes to realise how much there is to learn about the act of writing, which seems so simple to adults.
Here is some of Matthew's artwork. The first pictures were drawn for two of Louise's friends last week. Note the complete lack of a body on the left one, and the large square body on the right. He can show an eye for a surprising level of detail when he puts his mind to it; look at the brown hair in the left pic and black hair in the right, and the attempt to add fingers to the right pic too.

This is a picture Matthew drew today of Mummy and Daddy; if you look carefully you can also see a tiny face on the far left which is supposed to be Matthew himself. Check out the hair - as far as I know, when he refers to "Daddy" he is talking about me and I'm not actually raising a son of Jedward.

I was very impressed with this last picture. He drew all the elements himself without any prompting; green grass, blue sky, yellow sun and, for some reason, a pink Daddy!

On a separate note, Louise measured Matthew today and he is now 104cm, an increase of 2cm on last time.
