Matthew has now started in cylch meithrin (pre-school) two mornings a week, Wednesday and Thursday, and we no longer have to pay since he was already three at the start of term. Hopefully the extra morning will help him get used to cylch as he was only going on Wednesday mornings last term which didn't give him a lot of time to make friends or become familiar with the staff. As a result, it took a while for him to settle down and until recently he used to cry when he was taken there.
Now he's 'officially' in cylch we've been given a booklet about the Foundation Phase - the Welsh curriculum for 3 - 7 year olds - including what is taught, and how this is assessed. I can't see him having any problems as he seems very intelligent at home; my only concern is that, like me, he's quite shy and I wonder if he will be confident enough to participate in all the activities and show the staff his ability.
Louise changes her work schedule in April, so that will mean another change to Matthew's cylch (and Nursery) hours, but the next big move is when he starts full time school in September.
Matthew also had another visit to the dentist last week, and his teeth were fine. He can now brush his teeth well, though doesn't always brush the back and top teeth properly so still needs assistance. Lately he has wanted to apply the toothpaste to the brush himself, which usually means too much. He also had a musical Thomas and Friends handwash for Christmas which has created a new found enthusiasm for washing hands - very useful, but I wonder what will happen when it runs out!
On Friday evening I came home to find Matthew had coloured in part of the television! Fortunately it came off very easily. I don't think he realised it isn't good behaviour; he was keen to point out his scribbles to me and it turned out he had tried to colour in George from Peppa Pig, who he was watching at the time. We have told him not to do it again so will have to see if he can resist the temptation.
He has been more enthusiastic about colouring in lately. I bought him a Thomas magazine in the Co-Op yesterday and he has spent more time than usual doing the activities over the weekend, especially colouring in.
